AuTrain Beach
“That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” – 2 Corinthians 12: 10
AuTrain Beach. Beeeeautiful...
I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say this is the absolute nicest roadside (rest-stop) beach on M-28, and probably in the whole UP. AuTrain is a beach that draws people like windshields draw bugs, like headlights draw deer, like porch lights draw mosquitos, or like beauty draws smoke from a bonfire. I sometimes feel like people drive along M-28 for no other reason than to stop at this beach or to drive past its magnificent expanse of golden grains. Wow. Whatta beach!
Wanna know where it is? Here’s a map. Wanna see it from the air? Check the shoreline viewer!

Roadside Beach. It is AMAZING.
Obviously, this is a roadside beach… a rest stop. There is a nice parking area with picnic tables, cooking grills, etc… and some outhouses. The beach is just spectacular! AuTrain is a clean beach with a lot of room for playing games. Water is clean, clear, and refreshing. Definitely worth stopping if you are traveling through. Also worth a special trip.

Pull over here.

What a beach... what a beach... what a beach...

Swimming...
AuTrain does look awesome. I’m SO ready for summer!
My daughter and grandson’s love the beach here, can’t wait to return this year…..we live in Denver and so enjoy the U.P
The 1st pic of you entering the water looks like it could be of some cool big fish! (Maybe you are!) We will surely try to stop here! Hey: I think you should do a similar tour of the 63 Best Fishing spots in the U.P! How come you didn’t also just drop a line when you visited these beaches??? We love to fly fish and think you’d love it, too! Fish on!
LOVE love this beach! We swam here for hours. We even jumped off that bridge there 4 years ago when it was still legal.
Just at this beach on Thursday/Friday. What a beautiful location! The river flows right into Lake Superior and is much warmer then the lake. Nice place to spend the day!
Indeed! And how rare to find a beach like this along a highway. And yes, in almost every case for inlets to Lake Superior the rivers bring warmer waters than the lake itself.
