East Portage Entry

East Portage Entry

The East Portage Entry may be a bit off the beaten path, but sometimes that’s the point. It’s a pretty nice drive from Lake Linden down toward Dreamland (they have a bar), onward to Bootjack, and out to Jacobsville. About 20 miles I suppose… There is  a small park at the entry point, with some picnic tables, and cook-fire stations. A small sandy beach is just North of the breakwall. The breakwall itself is pretty neat. Its long, and a nice walk out to the end. The canal side is deep enough for diving, obviously, but you’d need to be careful on the other side. The ledge is only about 2 feet, so it’s fairly easy to climb out (but please don’t take my word for it… have a plan for getting out before jumping in). Shoreline Viewer.

Yup.

This place is definitely worth a visit if you’ve never been. This trip was my first time, and I’ll definitely make a point to go back. Quite a pretty spot. The Jacobsville lighthouse still stands just North of the East Portage Entry, but I believe it is privately owned? I think it is a small inn now?

Good camera work G.

We swung a grappling hook from the top of the first story up to the second story ledge of the lighthouse and jumped off this summer. It was awesome! You can also find legendary Lake Linden folks like Tyler Dessellier hanging out at the park on warm evenings.

  2. Haha… I love that! I wanna do it. I’ll wait for it to warm up a bit.

I have been here twice! Very windy both times. One day cold & one day hot. Maybe I had bad luck. My daughter enjoyed swimming in the beyond freezing cold temps. Playground is great!
